Daffodils, Wildflowers & Propagtion
2009 Knights Ferry Planting Day
October 25, 1:30 PM
A Growing Success:
A project site progress check was completed
May 20, 2009. Findings show that we have found success with the germination of the California Poppy's, Pink Calrkia, and Blue Lupines.
See pictures below-right.
Project Background:
Inspired from a sight witnessed in Gorman, Ca, we are working with Caltrans to broadcast over seven million wildflower seeds each year along Highway 108/120 from East Knights Ferry to the South Shore Lake Tulloch Rd. turn off.
On January 26, 2008 we began our work turning the meadows red, white, blue, yellow and orange. Orange Blossom 4-H & Sierra 4-H teamed up together and set 2008 as our pilot year for this project, so far things are looking great.
Participating 4-H Parents & Youth:
Youth must be 16 yrs. or older. For every five (5) youth members we have to have an adult twenty-one (21) or older. Safety and progress of the site will be organized and scheduled by Kenny J. Peterson (209-968-5372) in conjunction with the Caltrans Sonora Maintenance Station.
Seed Selection:
Seed selection was based off the list provided by EDAW San Francisco for the river restoration project being complete by the City of Modesto in the TRRP (Tuolumne River Regional Park) at Gateway Parcel.

This picture was taken from the Gorman Wildflower Project along I-5 as drivers past over the “Grapevine” into Los Angeles. In just a few years we will have identical painted hillsides in Stanislaus and Tuolumne Counties.
